The island was packed with over
50,000 fans almost doubling the number of residents. Most of these fans flocked here with their bikes and the normal 3 ferry ships serving the
island were increased to 8 mostly to handle the larger than normal infux of visitors here to celebrate 100 years of road racing on the Isle of
Man.
Throughout each year
many other sport events take place, including the Southern 100, Manx
Grand Prix as well as powerboat racing, classic car and bike rallying etc.
This strongly independent Island nation
(it is not now and never has been part of the UK nor of the European Union) has
the oldest continuous parliament in the world (Tynwald)
which was founded in 979 AD.
Famed for its beauty, history and
a unique breed of cats, the "three legs of Mann" is instantly recognisable
on the coat of arms and flag (above). For the person who asked, no, the cats
don't have three legs they are in fact famous for having no tails!
